De bidsprinkhaan is een insect dat leeft in warme gebieden. In België komt één soort in kleine populaties voor: de Europese bidsprinkhaan (Mantis religiosa). De bidsprinkhaan is ondanks zijn naam geen echte sprinkhaan, hij is namelijk familie van de [[Wikijunior:Kriebelbeestjes/Kakkerlak|kakkerlak]]. Echte sprinkhanen leven van planten, terwijl bidsprinkhanen leven van kleine dieren.
The Chinese Mantis is a type of insect found all over the world. Despite its common name, The mantis is not really a locust, but it is still realted to the cockroach. The overall body color is either grizzled, green or brown. But the mantis has another source of thing: when sitting still, it waits for prey to wander by, then strikes it with two long limbs. A single female can lay eggs in one day! Shortly after mating, the male dies. When it comes to mantis sex, females need it too. This mantis is sold as pets and are often used as trainers.
