Regel 55:
==Wensconstructies==

Soms willen we een wens of hoop uitdrukken dat er iets zou gebeuren. Dit geven we weer door een zin die begint met het partikel '''nai'''.
Sometimes you only want to express a wish or a hope that something would happen. In Quenya this is expressed by a sentence beginning with the particle '''nai'''.

In English we this is expressed by sentences beginning with "may", but this not very frequently used in modern English:
::'''nai hiruvalyes''' "may you find it"
In modern English we would rather use:
::'''nai tiruvantes''' "I hope (that) they see it/I wish (that) they see it"

In het Nederlands kan je dit vertalen door een zin die begint met "moge" ([[w:aanvoegende wijs]]), maar in modern Nederlands klinkt dit wel erg verouderd:
::'''nai hiruvalyes''' "maymoge youje findhet itvinden"
Daarom gebruiken we liever:
::'''nai tiruvantes''' "Iik hopehoop (that)dat theyik seehet itzie/Iik wishwou (that)dat theyik seehet itzag"

Note: the verb following "nai" is always in the future tense.

Merk op: het werkwoord in een zin met '''nai''' staat altijd in de toekomende tijd.

In this way, we can make any sentence with a future tense into a wish:
::'''hiruvan i malta''' "I shall find the gold"
:::→ '''nai hiruvan i malta''' "I hope I shall find the gold"

Op deze manier kunnen we van elke zin in de toekomende tijd een wens maken:
::'''hiruvan i malta''' "Iik shallzal findhet thegoud goldvinden"
:::→ '''nai hiruvan i malta''' "Iik hopehoop Idat shallik findhet thegoud goldvind"

::'''caruvantes''' "they will do it"
:::→ '''nai caruvantes''' "I hope they will do it"

::'''caruvantes''' "theyzij willzullen dohet itdoen"
:::→ '''nai caruvantes''' "Iik hopehoop theydat willzij dohet itdoen"

::'''elda tuluva''' "an elf will come"
:::→ '''nai elda tuluva''' "I hope an Elf will come"

::'''elda tuluva''' "aneen elf willzal comekomen"
:::→ '''nai elda tuluva''' "Iik hopehoop andat Elfeen willelf comekomt"

The word '''nai''' has an additional meaning of "probably", so when you use it, you assume that something will very likely happen.

Het woordje '''nai''' heeft een bijbetekenis van "waarschijnlijk"; als je het gebruikt dan ga je er dus vanuit dat het hoogstwaarschijnlijk zal gebeuren.
There also exists a word '''cé''' that is very similar to '''nai''', but it has the additional meaning "maybe". It is also used with a future tense:

::'''cé caruvantes''' "they will maybe do it"
Er bestaat ook een woord '''cé''' dat een analoge functie vervult als '''nai''' maar dat eerder "misschien" betekent. Het wordt eveneens met een toekomende tijd gebruikt:
So by using '''cé''', we express that we have strong doubts whether they will actually do it.
::'''cé caruvantes''' "theyzij willzullen maybehet domisschien itdoen"
Door '''cé''' te gebruiken drukken we dus ernstige twijfel uit of zij het wel zullen doen.

Regel 92 ⟶ 93:
==Voorwaardelijke bijzinnen==

In het Nederlands begint zo een bijzin met "als" of "wanneer".
A conditional sentence begins in English with "when" or "if".

TheHet Quenya conjunctionvoegwoord '''írë''' meansbetekent "whenwanneer", somet aeen conditionalvoorwaardelijke sentencebijzin withdie met '''írë''' expresses abegint certaintydrukken thatwe somethingdus willzekerheid happenuit:
::'''írë ceninyel, nan alassë''' "whenwanneer Iik seeje youzie, Iben amik happyblij"

WhenAls we areniet notzo sozeker sure,zijn wedan usegebruiken we '''mai''' (orof '''ai''') to expressom "ifals" weer te geven:
::'''mai ceninyel, nán alassë''' "ifals Iik seeje youzie, Iben amik happyblij"
In een zin met "als" zijn we dus niet zo zeker dat ik je wel ga zien.
So in this sentence it is not sure that I will see you.
