William Wordsworth (Cockermouth, 7 april 1770 - Ambleside, 23 april 1850) was een belangrijk Engels dichter die met Samuel Taylor Coleridge aan de basis lag van het tijdperk van de romantiek in de Engelse literatuur met hun in 1798 gezamenlijk uitgegeven Lyrical Ballads.
Als Wordsworths magnum opus wordt algemeen The Prelude genoemd, een lang semiautobiografisch gedicht over zijn vroege jaren, dat hij een aantal keren redigeerde en uitbreidde. Wordsworth was de Britse Poet Laureate van 1843 tot aan zijn dood in 1850.
